Old maps of Essex

First published in A New Description of England and Wales, the maps were also published (in the same year) as an atlas without the extensive descriptions (which were modified versions of the Camden Britannia texts).

This copy has its number (20) in the top corner, so is from the atlas. Most of the maps are taken from Morden, although several are from Speed; Essex is from Oliver.

Displayed scale of 10 miles = 48mm, or 5.3 miles/inch; scale actual = 5.8 miles/inch, or 1:365,000.
