There is no key to the symbols. Price One Shilling on cloth; hard covers.
Railway lines include Forest Gate to Tottenham (opened 1894), but no Chigwell loop (1903) or Corringham light (1901 - but maybe too small to show at this scale).
Scale correct at 8 miles = 50mm, or 4.0 miles/inch, ie 1:255,000.

Advert for Half Inch England & Wales series has the prices of 1898 to to 1912. This map is an "old series" sheetsfrom Bartholomews, whereas the "New Series" came out in 1897, and hence a date of 1898 for old stock.
