The table below lists Geographia's maps of Essex in approximately chronological order, followed by images of the maps intended for Rambling, Cycling and Roads, based on my own collection of maps of Essex.
The dimensions against each cover and each map are Height x Width; for the maps, the measurements are of the outermost neat line of the map (not the size of the sheet of paper).
Dates | Title(s) | Approximate Dimensions |
Notes |
---|---|---|---|
1920-42 | Two inch road maps | 740 x 970mm | Ugly maps; could surely only compete on price against Bartholomew's 2 inch maps. |
1921-24 | Three inch New Road Map |
415 x 530mm | Geographia seemed to like this scale, possibly as no-one else used it; very cheap. |
1922-52 | Three inch Large Scale Road Map |
475 x 720mm | Physically much larger series, in parallel with the two smaller sized 3 mile road maps. |
1931-44 | Three inch Up-to-date Road Map |
410 x 530mm | The cover changes, but the maps less so; still cheap. Also issued as the "Cycling" maps below. |
1936-42 | Five inch Touring Map | 970 x 725mm | Very large regional maps. |
1937-42 | Ramblers' Maps 1 | 475 x 645mm | One inch scale. |
1942-45 | Cyclists' Maps | 410 x 530mm | Three inch "Up-to-date" road maps (see above) sold as Cycling maps. |
1948 | Ramblers' Maps 2 | 475 x 645mm | One inch, same maps, new titles. |
1968 | Three inch Super detailed Map |
555 x 880mm | Face lifted for the 1960s, and physically larger again. |
