Children's Friend
A series of maps was published in the monthly periodical "The Children's Friend" between 1867 and 1890. They were in the form of a picture quiz, with the solution published a month later.
The magazine was published by Seeley, Jackson, and Halliday, 54, Fleet Street; S.W. Partridge and Co., 9, Paternoster Row.
The source of the maps is not known (per Donald Hodson in "The Printed Maps of Hertfordshire 1577-1900"), and they contain no more than is sufficient to make an obvious clue for the quiz. There is no scale, compass rose or anything other than major places and rivers (eg no railways). Actual scale approx 1:2.2 million.
My thanks to Graham Sledge who sent me these images and gave permission for me to use them.
