The Parliamentary Gazetteer of England and Wales
Same as Fullarton 1836, but with railways past Saffron Walden (opened 1845) and past Colchester into Suffolk (opened 1846). As before, some hillsides are shaded rather darkly, but by no means all are shaded, and the impression is of steep hills but only hills in a few places.
Displayed scale of 10 miles = 37mm, or 6.9 miles/inch; actual scale = 6.8 miles/inch, or 1:430,000.
The New & Comprehensive Gazetteer of England & Wales was first published by J Bell in 1833, and re-issued in 1834, 35, 36 & 37. It was then The Parliamentary Gazetteer of England and Wales from 1840 to 1849.
