Bacon's County Map and Guide Essex

Folding map with booklet, aimed at cyclists, with much text on Essex (political, physical, geological, industrial, antiquities and places of interest) and principal towns, plus 1901 populations.

The man and the woman are now dismounted standing next to the drop-handlebar bicycles next to a shoreline. The man's jacket and the word "Essex" are in red, but not the woman's blouse.

Print code in bottom left - 44M20.

Scale correct at 10 miles = 94mm, or 2.7 miles/inch, ie 1:170,000.

Constituencies are not shown as in 1896, but now their reference table has been replaced by a legend listing 9 symbols. Also describes "Hills to be ridden with caution" and "Hills dangerous".

The railway lines include the Chigwell loop (opened 1903) and the line to Tollesbury Pier (1907), but not the Thaxted branch (1913).
