Post Office Directory

Kellys had a long association with the Post Office, creating maps and Directories for them from 1845 to late in the 19th century.

By 1897, the map is also being used by Essex County Council to define its main roads and show its road maintenance areas.

Scale correct at 10 miles = 141mm, or 1.8 miles/inch, ie 1:115,000.

Railway lines are shown from Laindon to Pitsea (opened 1888) and Shenfield to Wickford (also opened 1888), but the Wickford to Southend and Maldon lines are only shown as proposed (opened 1889).
