First published in 1806, the Companion was re-issued several times (the 5th was in 1810) to 1846.
Displayed scale of 15 miles = 37.4mm, or 10.2 miles/inch; actual scale = 9.7 miles/inch, or 1:615,000.
The Companion was published in soft leather covers so that it could be rolled up and placed in a pocket when travelling.
